A search for a 16-year-old boy who got caught up in the Grand River continued well into the night as emergency personnel in Brantford rushed to find him.
At around 2:30 a.m., firefighters found the teen. Sadly, he was deceased.
Officials say sometime between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, the boy had been out with friends near D’Aubigny soccer park off Oakhill Drive when he swung from a rope over the river, dropped into the water, went under and floated away.
Brantford firefighters from three different fire halls, numerous police officers, including a K-9 unit, and Brantford-Brant paramedics rushed to the scene to mount a search and rescue mission for the young man.
