Brantford police are investigating an attempted child luring online after receiving a report from a concerned citizen.
On Tuesday at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Brantford Police Service received a report from someone claiming an unknown man had been inappropriately communicating with a young child over a portable device. The suspect used the term “big daddy.”
The citizen intercepted a conversation encouraging the child to meet the adult in a park near a portable toilet for an unknown reason.
Officers went to Cedarland Park and searched the area but were unable to find a suspect or the child.
Brantford Police Service is asking any parents or caregivers who have children with portable devices to monitor the transmissions out of similar concerns for child safety.
Brantford police is encouraging parents to educate their children about age-appropriate messages and to remind them to not to meet with strangers.
Detectives continue to investigate this incident and would ask anyone with information to please contact Detective Christine McCallum at the Brantford Police Service 519-756-7050, ext 2269.
