Brantford police have arrested and charged a local woman with several offences related to a robbery for prescription medicine and money on Park Road South after closing down part of Sydenham Street for a few hours on Monday.

An investigation into a robbery on Sunday led officers to Sydenham Street before noon on Monday.

As the officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, they closed Sydenham from Newcastle to Kennedy Street until approximately 5 p.m.

The officers eventually took the woman into custody without incident and reopened Sydenham.

The woman was charged in connection with a robbery that police responded to on Sunday at about 11:15 p.m. at a Park Road North residence. Officers learned a woman disguised entirely in black clothing and carrying a firearm went into the residence and robbed two men of prescription medication and money.

A 36-year-old woman from Brantford faces charges of robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, using a firearm while committing offence, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, disguise with intent to break and enter into a dwelling house – commit indictable offence, firearm or weapon, and two counts of possession contrary to a prohibition order.

Brantford Police Service would like to thank the area residents for their cooperation and patience as the situation was resolved.

The major crime unit is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-756-7050 or Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477 or 1-800-222-8477. Alternatively, a web tip may be submitted at: https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=251
