Man in distress shot by two Brantford police officers, SIU says

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has revealed preliminary findings in an investigation into a shooting by police officers in Brantford on Pearl St., Wednesday morning.

At approximately 10 a.m. on July 31, 2019, Brantford Police Service officers were dispatched to a residence on Ava Road after receiving a call from a man in distress.

Upon the officers arriving at the residence, the 48-year-old man drove away in a vehicle. The officers followed him to the area of Pearl Street and St. James Street.Soon after the man exited the vehicle, there was an interaction and two officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck multiple times.

He was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He is in critical condition.

Six investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The SIU is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
