Brantford police have charged a man after he spent close to a full day barricaded inside a Market Street residence.

On Wednesday, just before 2 p.m., officers safely and successfully made contact with the male, who was in distress, inside his residence near the intersection of Grey Street.

Police responded to the report of a person who had allegedly been threatened by the 36-year-old accused on the afternoon of April 2.

Officers de-escalated the situation by setting up containment, and negotiating with the male.

He has been arrested and is facing criminal charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and possession of a weapon (a knife) for dangerous purpose.

The accused was transported for precautionary reasons to undergo a medical assessment.

Brantford Police Service thanked the Waterloo Regional Police Service emergency response team for their assistance in a successful conclusion to this incident.
