A man who is in hospital with serious injuries after suffering an apparent gunshot wound near downtown Brantford was likely targeted by the shooter, according to police.
On Friday just after 1 p.m., the Brantford Police Service responded to a 911 call about a shooting at Colborne Street and Park Avenue.
At that scene, a convenience store cordoned off with yellow tape, officers discovered a male who suffered what appears to be a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to hospital.
Numerous police officers, including canine units and the emergency response unit, were scouring the area for a suspect.
The major crime unit is investigating the shooting, which they believe was targeted and not a random act of violence.
Brantford police was aided in the investigation by the County of Brant OPP and the Hamilton Police Service “within their respective jurisdictions.”
