Brantford officials investigating illegal hazardous substance dumps

Posted by

City police began an investigation over the weekend after hearing reports of illegally dumped material.

The reports led investigators to two separate locations in Brantford near Spalding Drive and Golf Road.  A third location was discovered Monday morning near Edge Street. In all three locations, containers containing unknown
substances, likely industrial chemicals, were found to be illegally dumped.

The Brantford Police Service is working with the Brantford Fire Department and the City of Brantford to safely investigate and clean up the dumped material.

Investigators believe the discarded materials may have belonged to and are byproducts of an illegal controlled drug lab.

The Brantford Police Service would like to warn the public about this investigation.  If
any member of the public comes across any such materials that have been discarded, do not approach them and contact the police, fire department or the city to report its location.

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Sergeant Greg Stanley of the Brantford Police Service street crime unit at 519-756-7050, ext. 2286 or call Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477 or 1-800-222-TIPS.
