Train collision kills man in Brant

Update: The fatal train collision is not being treated as suspicious, according to the Brant OPP. No foul play is suspected.

The investigation is closed.

Original story: A man has died after being hit by a passenger train on Powerline Road in the County of Brant.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County detachment is investigating the collision on railway tracks on Sunday, Nov. 4 at approximately 9:17 p.m.

The OPP, County of Brant Fire Department, Brant Brantford Paramedics and CN Police Service attended the scene.

Investigators determined that a Via Rail train carrying approximately 309 people travelling eastbound when the train collided with a pedestrian on the railway tracks on Powerline Road.

The male suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Powerline Road is currently closed between Karek Road and McMillian Road to allow for further investigation. It is anticipated that the roadway will be re-opened within three hours.
