Emergency responders searching for fisherman in Grand River, Brantford

Brantford police and firefighters are searching for a fisherman in the Grand River.

Witnesses saw the man go under near the Cockshutt bridge off Erie Avenue around noon and called 911.

Brantford Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and the Brantford Fire Department are currently searching the river and general area for the fisherman.

The fisherman is described is a white male, with grey hair and l approximately 50 years of age. He was last seen wearing a toque and lumberjack-style jacket. 

As of 8:40 p.m, the search for the man had yielded no results, according to Acting Staff Sgt. Dave Disher, but said officers were still out looking. The police deployed its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), K9 unit and the emergency response team, while the fire department searched the river in a rescue boat.

Any witnesses or other persons with information are asked to immediately contact the Brantford Police Service at 519 756-7050.
