A fire in a Six Nations home took the life of a three-year-old boy on Friday afternoon.
At 12:50 p.m., Six Nations Police responded to a report of a house fire at 1871 4th Line Rd. The officers learned there may have been be children still inside the house.
Six Nations Fire Department was already at the scene fighting the fire, while Six Nations paramedics were treating people who had been inside the house when the fire started. The occupants told police a three-year-old boy was still inside the house, which was fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.
Firefighters entered the house and found the child. Paramedics rushed the child to West Haldimand General Hospital.
The boy was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital. The victim’s name has not been released at this time pending notification of his family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Six Nations Fire Department has called the Office of the Fire Marshal to investigate. Six Nations Police continue to investigate as well.
